Superfoods
Eggs - Eggs are inexpensive and a great
source of protein. Eggs have the highest "biological
value" of any protein source. Having a high "biological
value" means that a high percentage of the protein in
eggs can be digested and actually used by your body. In the
past, eggs were not recommended because of their high cholesterol
content. However, current research has shown that the dietary
cholesterol in eggs does not significantly increase blood
cholesterol levels.
Almonds - Almonds are a great food to help
repair and rebuild muscle. They are loaded with vitamin E
and Omega 3's. While it is true that almonds are high in fat,
almonds contain "good" fat that actually lowers
cholesterol. Remember that almonds and other nuts are very
high in calories and may not be appropriate for dieters.
Salmon- Salmon is a potent source of protein
and a great source of Omega 3 fatty acid. Omega 3's have been
shown to reduce your risk for heart disease and diabetes.
Omege 3's may also help prevent muscle breakdown and aid in
muscle repair.
Cruciferous Vegetables - Cruciferous vegetables
are natures powerhouse for anti-oxidants and are nutrient
dense foods. Broccoli and Cauliflower are good examples.
Yogurt - Yogurt is an excellent source of
calcium and is one of the few foods which contain CLA or conjugated
linoleic acid. CLA is a special type of fat which some studies
have shows to actually help reduce body fat. Be careful to
check the food label when buying yogurt. Some manufactures
add large amounts of sugar to their product. Avoid frozen
yogurt! Frozen yogurt is just a sneaky way of selling
ice cream.
