Testimony

If you're like most people, you probably want to improve your physical body in some way or another. The Bible says,

"As water reflects a face,
so a man's heart reflects the man"
-Proverbs 27:19

While it's easy to see yourself in the mirror, what if you could see your heart in that same mirror? Would your heart need to lose some "weight"? While we're working on your physical body, I challenge you to allow God to work on your soul as well.

A testimony is a Christian's personal story of faith and how they found Christ. I was fortunate to have grown up in Church and was saved at an early age. However, I don't think I really understood what that meant until I was 22 years old.

During college I stopped going to church. College was a time of independence and "freedom." "Freedom" means partying and who knows what else. After college I was overweight and out of shape on the outside and inside. My life appeared to be successful so far -- good job, college degree, my own home -- but something was missing.

After college I wanted to lose some weight and get in better shape. Like most people I remembered God only when I thought I needed Him or when I wanted something. I prayed an honest and simple prayer -- something like "Please give me the strength to do this and I will give You the credit for it." Soon, I was running, eating healthier, and losing weight at a rapid pace. My prayer had been answered and I was empowered to lose some "weight" on the inside as well.

One Sunday morning I just woke up and decided to go back to Church. I bought a Bible and started reading it -- really reading it -- for the first time. There is no way to describe the experience. If you've never read the Bible, I challenge you to the experience. It is not an experience that you should miss! I suggest starting at the New Testament with the Book of Matthew. I'll even give you a Bible if you need one!

Christians are not "perfect" people, nor am I perfect. Sin is something that everyone struggles with daily. As a Christian, however, you have Jesus to help "spot" you, if you will, to get that heavy weight off your chest when you have no strength left.

The Bible tells us that we are like a morning mist -- here one minute and gone the next. (James 4:14) Looks, which seems so important right now, are worth nothing when you die. Your relationship with God is the only thing that really matters! Praise God that we have Jesus to save our souls and give meaning to our lives.
